Download our letter to show to your GP, if you're going to see them about stammering.

From time to time on the helpline, we hear from adults who have been to speak to their doctor about stammering but weren't taken seriously or given proper help. As a result, adults might not raise the issue for years, and feel alone and unsupported.

To address this, one of our helpline volunteers has put together a handy resource. It's a supporting letter from STAMMA that you can take to your GP which outlines the request for support and suggests options that could help.

Download our GP supporting letter below.

It gives you space to indicate which stammering features are typical for you, and then the rest of the letter does the work for you.

So, if you've just started stammering, or if you have been managing your stammer covertly but have hit a wall and want to see your GP, download our supporting letter and take it along with you.

Counsellors & private therapists

Or, are you looking to go to a counsellor or a private speech & language therapist? They might not know much about stammering, so we've got another letter you can download for them below.

We've also added this letter to our Downloadable Guides & Templates page.
