Sharon's poem @ STAMMAFest

Paragraphs

Watch Sharon Benson reading her poem 'Changing the Words' at STAMMAFest 2024, above.

Sharon took to the stage at our national conference in Nottingham last August to read her self-penned poem to the audience. It took place during a stammering pride rally, which was arranged by some of the attendees and featured people taking to the stage to talk about their stammers.

The day after, we caught up with Sharon at her request so that we could record her telling us her story. Watch it below.

See the pictures from STAMMAFest and read our conference report.

In the video, Sharon talks about The McGuire Programme, one of the options available for stammering. To see the full list of options, see One-to-one Adult Speech & Language Therapy and Adult Group Stammering Courses

Sharon refers to her stammer at one point as 'getting worse', which is a phrase we're trying not to use at STAMMA, as our recommendations for Finding the Right Words explain.
