New podcast aiming to reframe stammering

Disorderly Voices, a new podcast by Stuttering Commons, explores writing, scholarship and art that challenge and transform how we understand stammering.
"The way we think about and imagine stammering in society shapes the opportunities and possibilities available to people who stammer," says podcast hosts Patrick Campbell and Maria Stuart from Stuttering Commons. "Disorderly Voices aims to complicate and expand empowering perspectives of stammering, highlighting what embracing dysfluency can bring to our society."
Over seven episodes, Patrick and Maria host lively and humorous conversations with stammering academics, therapists, artists and activists, asking them to reflect on their work and its impact.
In its first episode, Joshua St Pierre discussed his 2012 article 'The Construction of the Disabled Speaker', which frames stammering as a shared process between the speaker and the world around them, and laid the groundwork for the Stammering Pride movement.

The latest episode dropped today, featuring Christopher Constantino who talks about 'Stuttering Gain'. Upcoming episodes feature Conor Foran on his 'Dysfluent' project, Sam Simpson on 'Looking forward; looking back', and, in later episodes, Maria Stuart and Daniel Martin explore how stammering is represented in poetry and fiction. All are members of Stuttering Commons, a cross-disciplinary community of academics, artists and therapists transforming the world's understanding of stammering.
Patrick & Maria say, "We hope the podcast gets people who stammer to think a little differently about their dysfluencies and that it offers academics, speech and language therapists, and enthusiasts a place to geek out. We really enjoyed making the podcast and hope you enjoy listening just as much."
