1st December 2021

Gary Pickard's ultra catchy song is released today, with all proceeds going towards helping people who stammer.

Here at STAMMA HQ we've got major cases of earworm following the release of 'I Can't Say My Name' by Gary Pickard.

The country-tinged track was written by professional musician Gary when he was 22 as a way to help him accept his stammer. "Growing up, learning to play the guitar really helped me channel my frustration of not being confident with my speech," he told us.

It wasn't until Gary watched the BBC documentary with the same name twenty years later that he decided to do something with it. "When I watched 'I Can't Say My Name' in March, I couldn't believe the coincidence of the title and the subject matter. It was an emotional watch for me; hearing other people sharing their stories of living with a stammer made me feel like I wasn't alone."

My goal is to help inspire others to write and share their experiences in a creative way and to raise a bit of money along the way for such a brilliant organisation.

As a result Gary's made his song available to buy online, very kindly offering to donate all proceeds of the track to STAMMA. "I wanted to become part of this movement to change how the world views stammering, so I decided to offer STAMMA my song." He adds, "Please share the link or play the song to someone you know who is going through the same thing. My goal is to help inspire others to write and share their experiences in a creative way and to raise a bit of money along the way for such a brilliant organisation".

Go to ditto.fm to download or stream 'I Can't Say My Name' on all major platforms. It costs 99p to download, with all revenue going to STAMMA. Thank you Gary!

Read how a chance encounter with an old school bully led Gary to write the song in the first place, in his article for our Your Voice section.
