Autumn, a speech & language therapy student at Manchester Metropolitan University, invites you to take part in her research project.

Autumn says, "Being LGBTQ+ or a person who stammers has historically been stigmatised in the UK. This is partly due to outdated and misinformed cultural, political and medical belief, and attitudes about stammering, sexuality and gender.

'The aim of my project is to gain an understanding of the experience of being an LGBTQ+ person who stammers. Join me for an online chat on Microsoft Teams to share your lived experiences, so I can explore how identity is shaped by cultural attitudes and community. Hopefully, the findings can allow healthcare professionals to understand a wider range of patient perspectives".

To take part, you need to:

  • have a stammer
  • identify as LGBTQ+
  • be 18+
  • be UK-based, or have grown up in the UK
  • consent to the interview being recorded and transcribed for data analysis.

If you would like to take part in Autumn's research, please email her at 24782820@stu.mmu.ac.uk

This project runs until 29th May 2026.
