Gemma, a student at Colchester Institute is looking for people to take part in her research. She says:

I'm Gemma, a counselling and psychotherapy student exploring how people who stammer experience and perceive counselling.

By counselling, I'm referring to therapeutic sessions, usually around 50 minutes, where individuals can talk openly about their difficulties in a confidential, supportive space with a trained counsellor. People may seek counselling for a wide range of reasons, including grief, relationship challenges, stress, anxiety, or other emotional concerns.

I'm inviting people who stammer to complete a short questionnaire about your thoughts and experiences around the subject. You're welcome to take part even if you haven't accessed counselling before; I'm equally interested in what you think it might feel like.

If you would like to take part, please download the questionnaire below. Fill it out and then email it to me at gemmab4719@colchester.ac.uk by Monday 2nd March.

More about the project

With my project, I want to:

  • understand what supports or hinders access to counselling, and
  • learn more about what helps therapy feel safe, inclusive and genuinely responsive.

I believe therapy should be a safe and inclusive space where clients can express themselves freely and without judgement. So, by gathering these insights, I hope to raise awareness of barriers that may exist and contribute to more accessible, ethical and affirming therapeutic practice for everyone.

Please email me at the address above if you have any questions.
