Join the 2.6 challenge
Support the #TwoPointSixChallenge and Stamma.
You'll need to set yourself a fundraising challenge involving the numbers 2.6 or 26 to complete on Sunday 26th April (see below).
With thousands of fundraising events being cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the threat to charities through loss of income is huge. To plug the gap and help raise funds, organisers of mass-participation events including the London Marathon have created the 2.6 Challenge. People can donate or fundraise for charities generally or they can pick a charity. Pick us!
If you raise money for Stamma, we'll get a proportion of the overall pot, reflecting the amount supporters have raised for Stamma.
The impact of the Covid crisis on Stamma was huge. We took immediate action back at the start of March, freezing new posts, talking with our major funders, and planning for how staff can work from home and cover for each other. We dramatically reduced our expected income and expenditure for 2020 and beyond. We’ve scaled back the regular income we expect from members, furloughed two staff and with the freeze on the property market, we’ve taken out any legacy income expected from the 2 house sales due this year.
While we have cut to the bone, now is the time to keep, and expand, our services. Now more than ever. Isolation is having a real impact on people's fluency. More parents than ever are ringing our helpline about their children who are starting to stammer.
We want to increase our support, offer a outreach service to members, increase our helpline capacity, underpin the imminent webchat launch, and keep our website up to date and relevant with updated details about therapies, local groups and the latest Your Voice stories.
If you can, do donate or fundraise for us. If you can't, don't worry. Keep in touch.
What is the 2.6 challenge?
Here's the deal: set yourself a challenge at any activity you want, eg running 2.6 miles round your garden or balcony, doing 26 push ups or keepie uppies, or a sponsored silence for 2.6 hours. Be as imaginative as you like. Then perform that challenge on Sunday 26th April, the day the London Marathon was due to take place.
