New workshops for parents

4th October 2022

Find out about the workshops we've lined up to support parents of children who stammer over the next six months.

Parents of pre-school children who stammer

The aim of these workshops is to help you as parents feel more confident about supporting your pre-school child who stammers and to be able to discuss any concerns.

They will include practical tips and resources and will answer some of those big questions you may have. They're open to parents, guardians and grandparents of children who stammer living in the UK and will be led by Stephanie Burgess, Senior Specialist Speech & Language Therapist at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

Minding Less about Stammering

Thursday 3rd November

As parents we all have fears around our children, it comes with the territory. When a child begins stammering it's natural to panic and feel out of control. Naturally we all just want our children to be OK. If your child has been stammering for a while, it is easy think 'what if' about the future.

This workshop will help you to keep present and focus on your whole child, whilst providing practical strategies on how to respond to stammering in a way that supports your child to grow as a confident communicator, as well as looking at how to provide a positive communication environment for everyone in your family.

It will be run by Jaclyn Morton, a Speech & Language Therapist and mum of two boys. The workshop is aimed at parents of young children (under 7) who stammer but it is open and applicable to all parents.
