Neil Morjaria tells us what he, his wife and children who stammer got out of our last Family Day. Don't miss the next one: buy tickets for our Family Day on Saturday 17th August in Nottingham.

I must express how amazing I felt after the Family Day at STAMMAFest in 2022. Being in a room full of people from all walks of life, all with one thing in common, was simply awe-inspiring.

Everything about the day was great and it was extremely beneficial to us. It was so nice to meet other parents of children who stammer and share our stories and advice. Some parents had just learned of their child's stammer and came to Family Day looking for techniques to help their child. Some had accepted that stammering was just something that their child did, and others fully embraced their child's stammer. They talked about it now seeming inconsequential and how, by accepting and embracing stammering, their child had become fearless.

It was so nice to meet other parents of children who stammer and share our stories and advice.

One thing was clear to me and that was the love and support that was in the room. Each parent there was a strong advocate for their child. But more than that, as a father of two children who stammer (and a husband!), it brought me great comfort to know that we were not alone. I've kept in touch with some of the parents too, which is nice.

It was enlightening to hear of the varied experiences of the group in terms of society's acceptance of stammering, especially from speakers such as Mr ST, an inspirational teacher who stammers and who also helps children who stammer. I learned about a huge range of resources available for parents that I wasn't aware of and made many friends who I hope to see again at STAMMAFest this August

Your children will thank you for taking them to a place where they'll feel they belong.

Your children will thank you for taking them to a place where they'll feel they belong. My daughter loved it as she met others her age who stammer like her. My son had an amazing day too! He loved the activities and he's kept in touch with some of the children there, with hopes of meeting them again someday. He felt comfortable and confident. It was invaluable.

Thank you to STAMMA and all the staff there for creating such an amazing platform with their Family Day. We absolutely loved it and all felt so welcome. If you are like I was and you are on the fence about attending, take the plunge. You won't regret it!
