Thank to everyone who donated to help us set up the new Employment Clinic!

The Employment Clinic is our new initiative to help us support people who stammer with work related issues. We needed to raise £6K to get it started, and you have delivered.

Why are we setting up the clinic?

Over the past year, we supported 74 people who stammer with questions and problems about work through our helpline, webchat and email support service. 65% of these were aged under 35. They included:

• A candidate discriminated against in an interview on the grounds of his dysfluent speech. This was despite the fact that the role didn’t require verbal communication.
• An advert where the wording excluded people who stammer from consideration.
• An employee who found phone meetings with their manager challenging, but the manager refused to consider alternatives.
• An employee who, because of their stammer, found it hard to demonstrate their knowledge in an interview for promotion.
