STAMMA volunteer Manai Lall reviews a book about increasing confidence in the workplace, by Anupam Sharma.

'Saying goodbye to my fear of stuttering and achieving success' is a little gem for readers who stammer and are about to embark in a new job. And/or for those needing guidance when the fear of stammering dominates their everyday work life.

Anupam Sharma, a young author in the IT industry, discusses his struggles of living with stammering as a teenager and how he learnt to live in the present moment by accepting it.

At 50 pages, this is a short self-help book that provides practical steps to accepting stammering and re-programming yourself to let go of fear associated with it.

..it is definitely for anyone looking for guidance on how to deal with anxiety and fear connected to stammering at work.

The author has taken a pragmatic approach with his speech and gives recommendations on how to manage the fear of stammering at work with unique and practical steps. One of his recommendations is to stand in front of the mirror and talk to increase self awareness and focus, something which really helped him.

One of the book's strengths is its ability to connect the past to the present, highlighting the relevance of self-awareness and preparing your pathway for a better work environment and career structure by staying in the present and grounding yourself.

As someone who stammers I very much resonated with the author, in particular when talking to colleagues, conducting presentations and chairing meetings at work.

Overall I found the book a delightful and inspiring read and it is definitely for anyone looking for guidance on how to deal with anxiety and fear connected to stammering at work.

'Saying goodbye to my fear of stuttering and achieving success' by Anupam Sharma is a self-published book, available to buy on Amazon.

Read author Anupam Sharma's article for our website, where he gives some background to the book, and explains how focusing on his interests and career goals rather than his speech helped to change his mindset.

Thank you very much to Manai Lall for reviewing this book for STAMMA. Read more book reviews about stammering.
