National Diversity Awards 2021: Meet the Nominees

13th May 2021

Vote for the STAMMA members nominated for National Diversity Awards, and join us as we chat with them live on Zoom.

We're proud to announce that three of our brilliant members (*ahem* and us) have been nominated at the National Diversity Awards 2021

Abed Ahmed, Claire Norman and Jack Dinsley are all up for the Positive Role Model award at the event taking place in September, and you can vote for them. (More about each nominee and how you can vote is below.)

Meet the nominees live on Zoom

To celebrate so many members of the stammering community being recognised at the awards, our very own Kirsten Howells will be chatting to Abed, Claire and Jack over Zoom on Monday 31st May at 7pm. Join us as we talk to this inspirational trio about the difference they've made for people who stammer.

Register for our 'Meet the Nominees' Zoom event, 31st May at 7pm.

Vote!

The more nominations Abed, Claire & Jack get, the better chance they have of seeing their incredible contributions recognised. Voting closes on Friday 4th June, so please vote now using the links below for whoever you want to see receive an award!

Nominee Abed AhmedAbed Ahmed is a maths teacher who teaches students with speech, language and communication needs to be confident in themselves. He co-founded the Birmingham Stammering Network, runs a support group for children and young people and is a former STAMMA Trustee.

Sometimes you don't realise the impact you have on others, so this was definitely a nice surprise.

Nominee Claire NormanClaire Norman founded STUC (Stammerers Through University Consultancy), which supports university/college students and staff who stammer. STUC collaborates with higher education establishments nationwide to ensure that no one is held back, penalised or mistreated because of their stammer.

Even if I helped only one person, I would have fulfilled my aims through STUC. But to have been recognised as helping hundreds to thousands more is something I never thought I could do.

Nominee Jack DinsleyJack Dinsley is the creator of the Be Kind Stammer campaign, which raises stammering awareness in schools. He's also raised awareness through his appearances on BBC Newsround, Radio 1, BBC Newsbeat and BBC Lancashire.

I am so honoured to be nominated. The work I have done hasn't been to gain awards or recognition. It has been to raise awareness and education about stammering. I'm thrilled.
