Eleanor, a student at Birmingham City University, invites speech & language therapists (SLTs) who stammer or have other speech, language & communication needs (SCLN) to help with her study.

For her research, Eleanor is exploring how a therapist's lived experience of SLCN shapes their experience of and practice within their professional role.

She says, "Many clinicians value their lived experiences, highlighting how it can enrich their knowledge, expertise and practice as SLTs. However, it has rarely been the explicit focus of research".

If you are an SLT with experience of primary difficulties in speech, language and communication (including stammering) or who experience SLCN secondary to other conditions (eg, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment), Eleanor would love to hear from you.

She invites you to join her for a virtual one-to-one online interview to chat about your experiences. It will last around an hour and will be arranged at a time to suit you.

Eleanor says, "By contributing to this study, participants would support a deeper understanding and recognition of SLTs with lived experiences as valued members of the profession."

To take part, or for more information, please email Eleanor at eleanor.boots@mail.bcu.ac.uk This study will run until the week beginning 7th September.

This study has been approved by Birmingham City University's Research Ethics Committee. It has been approved for inclusion here by the STAMMA Research Panel  read more about this process.
