Are you a woman who stammers and has attended a support group, either online or in person?

Tegan, a postgraduate student at Manchester Metropolitan University, is looking to speak to women who stammer about their experiences of stammering support groups in the UK.

Tegan says, “Support groups can be a valuable space to connect, share stories, and find encouragement. But most research has focused on men’s experiences. This study aims to shine a light on women’s voices on what works, what doesn’t, and how these groups could better support you”.

What's involved?

If you want to take part, Tegan will invite you to a one-off, confidential online interview via Microsoft Teams. She’ll ask what led you to join a support group, what you’ve found helpful or challenging, and your thoughts on how they could be improved for women. It should take around an hour.

The closing date is 1st June 2025.

Who can take part?

You can take part if you:

  • are 18 or over
  • identify as a woman/female
  • live in the UK
  • speak English
  • have attended a stammering support group (online or in person) for at least two months.

Tegan says, "Your insights will help shape future support for women who stammer, including how speech & language therapists and group facilitators understand and meet your needs".
