Supporting letters to access stammering therapy

Section

Download a letter to take to your GP if you want to access speech & language therapy. Or to support you when seeking private therapy and counselling.

If you're looking for help for your stammer, one option is to get speech & language therapy. This is available on the NHS and in most cases you can refer yourself see One-to-one Adult Stammering Therapy to find out how.

In some places you might need your GP to refer you. This can be problematic if you don't audibly stammer much and are concerned the GP might not believe you.

In this case, you can download one of our supporting letters below to give them. It outlines how stammering can individually affect people, and explains how it might not be obvious.

We've also got a supporting letter to give to a private speech & language therapist or counsellor, if that's what you've chosen to do. They may not know much about stammering, so this explains things.

Scroll down to download the letters.

Don't forget, we're here if you need help or just fancy a chat. Call our free helpline or start a webchat. Or email help@stamma.org
