Poem: From Storm to Calm
Daniel Sydenham shares his new poem and tells us about his TikTok account, where he'll be posting stammering content.
A couple of years ago, I shared my poem 'Equality for People who Stammer' and I have just finished this new one 'From Storm to Calm'. I hope that by reading these poems, anyone who's struggling with stammering will realise that there is a whole community of people out there who will help.
From Storm to Calm
By Daniel Sydenham
In dreams of helping, I find my guide
Through tough school days, I walked with pride
Bullies beat me down till I took a stand
Turned my life around, made my own brand.
Emotions shift with each line I write
Sadness, frustration, sometimes pride ignites
Determined, my stammer turned to strength
Every poem, my journey's length.
Seeing my life like a river's flow
Through every twist and turn, I grow
In echoes of empowerment, my voice shines clear
In my poetry, my truth becomes clear
Each verse, a piece of my story here.
I picture my journey as a storm that brings the calm
When I'd had enough, I unleashed a storm
Destroying bullying and torment in my path
Until the storm passed, leaving no wrath.
The calm came, the path now clear
No bullying, no torment left to fear
Just peace and quiet in my mind
My journey's reflection, one of a kind.
With each word, I tear down the wall
Transforming struggle into light
My voice is strong — it's clear and bright
Echoing empowerment, shining bright.
I am going to be posting stammer content on my TikTok account @empowered.echoes.poems very soon, I hope. It will include poems linked to stammering, and more.
