The Institute of Acoustics Stammering Support Network

The Institute of Acoustics (IOA) Stammering Support Network is for professionals involved in acoustics across the UK who stammer to come together in a mutually supportive environment.

Founder David Yates says, "We invite fellow acousticians who stammer to discuss concerns they may have about carrying out their role, where speech may be an important aspect. Through sharing our experiences and insights we hope to provide support in all levels of their career where there may be some challenges around speaking. The group is also open if you wish to seek advice for an employee, colleague, or even a friend or family member".

David adds: "'I was inspired to create this group due to the IOA's renewed focus on diversity and inclusion and have the support of both the IOA and STAMMA. A little about me: I am an Acoustic Consultant of over 10 years’ experience and I serve on the IOA Southern Branch Committee. I have stammered most of my life and I am now confident in meetings, addressing groups and giving presentations — but it has taken a while to get to that stage! I would have liked a place I could go at times in my career for support with my speech with likeminded professionals. I am hopeful this group can fulfil that support gap for us all".

The IOA Support Network is set up as a private group on LinkedIn, so for discretion does not appear on members' profiles. Connect with David on LinkedIn. He says, "Send me a private message and I will then invite you to the group".
