The Research Arena

Your opportunity to influence the design and development of stammering research.

The Research Arena is our initiative to get people who stammer more involved in how research into stammering is designed. It's an online event held every two months, where you can join in either as a person who stammers, or as a researcher.

What's it about?

At the online Zoom event, we invite up to two researchers to speak to an audience made up of people who stammer. They briefly describe their research idea or project related to stammering which they want to develop. Then you as the audience can ask questions about the aims and plans for the idea or project, and give your own input.

The arena started early in 2022 and so far we've had some really interesting sessions. By creating space for discussion and engagement, you can be influential in improving the quality and real-world relevance of stammering research.

See our Events section to see when the next Research Arena is taking place.

You can take part in two ways:

1. Be part of the audience

Whether you know a lot, a little or nothing at all about stammering-related research, your experience of living with a stammer is valuable to researchers. Here's your opportunity to find out more, and to listen to, participate and influence research projects related to stammering.

If you'd like to join the Research Arena audience, email us at help@stamma.org

2. Discuss your research idea or project

Are you doing or thinking of doing some research related to stammering? Whether you're a student or a seasoned researcher, the STAMMA Research Arena gives you the opportunity to increase public involvement in stammering research and the experiences of people who stammer.

This means that people with relevant experience of stammering and on what really matters can contribute to how your research is designed, conducted and disseminated.

So, if you're planning or developing a research project related to stammering, and would be interested in taking part, email us at help@stamma.org with the following information:

  • briefly outline your research (just a few sentences are enough)
  • any questions you would like to pose to the group.

Join in. It's a really interesting hour and a half!

To find out what live research projects you can take part in, see Take Part In Stammering Research.
