Share your experiences of stammering at work for a research project by a student at Birkbeck University.
Background & purpose
For his MSc research project, Jakub Korzecki wants to learn more about the workplace experiences of people who stammer and how it may have an impact on their work.
Jakub says, "As someone who stutters, this is an issue close to my heart that I want to investigate. It’s an under-researched area, leading to a lack of evidence to help further understanding from employers. Hopefully my findings may contribute towards overcoming discrimination and giving voice to those who have been affected by stammering at work."
Who can take part?
To take part in the research you need to:
- self-define as having a stammer
- have at least two years of full-time employment experience; and
- be over 18.
What will it involve?
Jakub will email you and ask you to write about your experiences of stammering at work and send it back to him. After this short written exercise, he’ll give you the option of joining an interview which will be via video call and will last between 40 and 90 minutes. This interview is not compulsory.
If you would like to take part, email Jakub on firstname.lastname@example.org, summarising in one sentence what you do now for a job, how much work experience you have and what sector you work in.
