Inspired after the recent Walk ‘n’ Talk event, one member wants to start a walking group and is looking to gauge interest in the idea.
Dean Ridge explains, “We decided to create a monthly walking group to bring fellow stammerers together and use it as a way of meeting new people or catching up with friends. There’s no agenda, simply come along and enjoy yourself. We see it as complementing the local support group model by providing an alternative way of meeting up.”
Date for the first walk
The first walk is at 10am on Sunday 21st July around Derwent and Howden Reservoirs (Peak District) on the Sheffield/Derbyshire boundary.
Dean adds, “It’ll be a leisurely 11m walk and we will go to the pace of the slowest walker - no one will be left behind. As with all good walks, we’ll stop off halfway for a picnic. We’ll also go for a bite to eat and a drink afterwards.
We hope that people in other areas of the country will take our lead and start their own local walking groups.
‘We picked the Peak District as it’s on the doorstep for a lot of the northern groups. It has so much to offer and covers such a vast area that we’ll never run out of amazing walks. We hope that people in other areas of the country will take our lead and start their own local walking groups.
‘The walk is predominately open to people who stammer but friends and family are more than welcome to come too. You can even bring your dog along!”
